This weekend, surfers are challenging waves and each other in a competition in Garden City Beach. It's part of the Microwave Surf Challenge. Surfers from all over the Eastern seaboard are participating.

The contest is divided into six divisions with all the competitors under 18 years old. A total of $8,000 will be split among the winners.

Competition lasted all day Saturday. On Sunday, more preliminaries will be held starting at 8:30 a.m., and then the finals will go on through the afternoon.

Billabong team surfers Cam Richardson, Luke Gordon, and Micha Cantor are competing.

The event is sponsored by Hyatt Automotive, Billabong, Village Surf Shoppe, Surfwater Productions, and WPDE NewsChannel 15.

All proceeds benefit the American Red Cross and the Boys and Girls Club.
