A tanker fuel truck collided with a freight train in Lake City Thursday morning.

It happened at the intersection of Fairview and Acline Streets just after 5 a.m.

The truck driver told fire officials he jumped from the tanker after it stalled on the tracks. The truck wasn't carrying any chemicals.

Officials say five of the 89 cars on the train contained chemicals, but no spills or leaks were reported. None of the cars derailed.

The conductor was bruised in the accident.

Police have blocked off the intersection until CSX Hazmat teams complete an evaluation of the scene as a precaution.

Sharon Croker lives across the street from the intersection. She didn't hear the actual crash, but did notice a strange noise coming from the scene.

"It was like a drilling noise when I got up at 6:15. I always get up every morning at that time. I looked out the window and that's when I saw the train on the track and truck and all the police cars, " said Croker.

Crews expect to have the scene cleared by 10 a.m.

Lake City police are investigating. The Lake City Fire Department, South Lynches Fire Department and Florence County Emergency Management are assisting.
