Johnnie Rodgers gave a letter of resignation to Florence County Council Thursday morning.

Rodgers has represented District 5 on council since 2001. His resignation is effective June 29.

Chairman Rusty Smith read the letter citing health problems as the reason Rodgers is resigning.

Smith says Rodgers has done a great job serving the Scranton, Coward and Effingham communities.

Rodgers was at Thursday's council meeting. A number of people thanked him for his hard work.

We're waiting to find out about a possible special election to fill his seat.
