Two Fair Bluff, North Carolina firefighters, who were hurt while responding to a wildfire in Horry County, are recuperating from surgery and doing well.

Capt. Jerry Meares and Firefighter Ashleigh Wilson were on their way to help Horry County Fire Rescue and the Department of Natural Resources with a 180 acre woods fire off West Perry Road Saturday when the tanker truck's tire blew out, causing the truck to overturn several times

Fair Bluff firefighters say Wilson was wearing a seat belt, but was thrown from the truck. They say Capt. Meares was trapped under part of the truck for about 35 minutes.

Capt. Meares is at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where he underwent his second surgery Monday for his shoulder and did well, according to Fair Bluff Fire Department. He still has several surgeries to go for his shoulder and neck fractures.

Wilson was transferred to Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia and is scheduled for surgery Tuesday for head trauma she suffered in the crash. Wilson is in good spirits after her surgery.

Fair Bluff Fire and Rescue http://www.fbfr.net/ is accepting donations to help the volunteer firefighters and their families.
