US Postal Spokesman Harry Spratlin says the moratorium on post office closures nationwide will end May 15th, and while the processing center at the Florence Post Office's main office on West Evans Street is still scheduled for closure, it will take a few months.
Operations will move to Columbia, but not before August. Spratlin says they will notify the public when an official date is set.
He says about 158 people work at the Florence center.
Thirty-nine of the jobs will be eliminated, but those employees will have a chance to bid on other jobs across the country.
There are already jobs available for the other 119 employees.
In February, USPS made the decision to close the processing center after an extensive study. It says closing the facility wouldn't have a huge impact on mail delivery and it would save $3.8 million a year.
Last month, NewsChannel 15 talked with two Florence postal workers who say the closing will devastate their families.
Robert Davis and Sophia McDowell hoped USPS would reconsider their decision and asked the community to support them in their efforts to keep the processing center open.'
