Mother's day is the third-largest card-sending holiday in the U.S. with 133 million cards exchanged, but what about the people that make those cards?

It's not just big companies like Hallmark. One local mom has added her twist on the matriarch holiday.

Petra Sander of Little River has been making her handmade cards for years.

Each card can take up to an hour to make, Sander says, and many come with its own matching envelope. Her top selling cards might surprise you, she says.

"You would expect birthday cards to be the biggest seller and I would say the ones that sell the most are sadly, sympathy cards. It's like the one time when people send the real card."

Sander says her next busiest holiday coming up is graduation.

Where does she get the creativity for the cards? Her inspiration comes from everywhere, she says. Part of that creativity comes from Carolina Improv Company, where Petra teaches and performs.
