A man who spent 15 years putting his life on the line for his community was named Myrtle Beach Firefighter of the Year Friday.

This year's honor went to Richard Palmer who serves at Station One on Mister Joe White Avenue.

Chicora Rotary Club held a luncheon at the Dunes Club to honor Palmer and three nominees. The club started the program as a way to honor those who serve and protect our community and property.

"It was an honor just to be nominated," said Palmer.

Gifts and cash prizes were given to Palmer and the runners-up.
