MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) - More than 100 people came out to Pirates Voyage off highway 17 to celebrate youth literacy.

One of the venue's seals even showed how important reading is by flipping through a book.

The festival was in honor of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. The nonprofit mails children ages 1 to 5 a gift of a book each month for free.

"We got about 60,000 books that we distribute annually to the children of Horry County and obviously, there is no cost to them. All they have to do is register for the program," said Larry McCoy, Pirate's Voyage Marketing Director.

Since 2002, the program has delivered nearly 600,000 books in Horry County and 11,000 children have graduated through the program.
