ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - Authorities have identified the Ohio pilot of a plane that crashed at the Anderson Regional Airport while practicing takeoffs and landings.

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said 58-year-old William Hayden of Cincinnati died in the crash around 1 p.m. Friday duringthe second of his three training runs.

Investigators say Hayden and a friend flew to Anderson, and the pilot dropped the friend off before he began practicing. The friend saw the crash and suffered burns trying to get Hayden free from the burning wreckage of the four-seat Cirrus SR22.

Authorities say the plane appeared to climb steeply, then stalled and rolled as it plunged to the ground.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
