Darlington County Administrator Dale Surrett says county council is in the middle of budget talks and so far things look pretty grim.
Surrett says they're in a tight situation not knowing if the state will change its local government funding formula. He adds there is talk lawmakers could go back to the 1995 funding formula which could cost the county about $3 million.
Lawmakers are discussing the local government funding as part of their budget debate.
Surrett says they've talked with their Darlington County legislative delegation to make them aware of how many cuts in state funding would impact the county. He says they would have to cut jobs and services or go to employee furloughs in order to offset the cuts.
The county's general fund is about $22 million and losing any funding from the State would hurt them.
He says there is some good news because of two significant economic investments in the county to the tune of $220 million.
Sonoco and Nucor announced expansions earlier in the year that would create several jobs.
Surrett says they're excited about the expansions, but they won't see a direct impact in their economy until future years.
