(AP) -- With all of South Carolina in some stage of drought, the state's Drought Response Committee is meeting to assess the situation. The statewide teleconference is scheduled for Wednesday.

All of South Carolina is in a moderate drought with six counties along the upper Savannah River - Oconee, Pickens, Anderson, Abbeville, McCormick and Edgefield - in a severe drought.

The committee will review stream flow, discuss drought impacts and assess if last weekend's rain has helped ease the situation.

Officials say the dry, warm spring and winter did not replenish ground water as it normally does.

The National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center forecasts some improvement in the western two-thirds of the state by July, although dry conditions will continue along the coast.
