LELAND, N.C. (AP) - Leland has lost five police officers from the town's police force in the past week.
The town announced Friday that three officers were fired. Two others have resigned. All the officers were suspended April 13 as the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office investigated possible policy violations at the request of interim Police Chief Mike James.
James says in a news release he fired the officers after getting the results of that investigation. He says he won't release details about why the officers were fired until their appeals process with the town is complete.
The State Bureau of Investigation is also looking into Leland's police force.
