Society Hill Police Chief Kaynnera Capers says a woman called 911 Thursday morning saying her boyfriend beat her up and stole her car.
He says they immediately began searching on Church Street for the boyfriend.
Capers says they requested the assistance of the Darlington County Sheriff's Office, and deputies brought in their dog team. He says it is standard protocol to call the sheriff's office for help because they're his department's back up and they have more resources.
Darlington County School District administrators say they locked down Rosenwald Elementary in Society Hill as a precaution.
Chief Capers says as he questioned the woman, her story didn't add up.
He says he later realized the woman wasn't telling the truth. Capers says the woman wasn't assaulted and her car was not stolen.
However, Capers says the boyfriend is wanted on a family court bench warrant for failure to pay child support.
He says the man isn't dangerous and has indicated he will turn himself in on that charge. The search has been called off.
The lock down at Rosenwald has since been lifted.
In the meantime, Chief Capers has asked to review 911 tapes from the woman's call to see if she should be charged with making a false report to police.
No names are being released at this time.
