A benefit at "On the Half Shell" restaurant Sunday raised $33,244 for the employees of "Dead Dog" restaurant in Murrells Inlet, which was destroyed by fire on Ash Wednesday.

The money will be distributed between the restaurant's 58 employees. Managers aren't included.

Island Green hosted a golf tournament as part of the fundraiser.

Bands donated their time for the event and food and drinks were available for a minimal cost.

The fire may have started from a discarded cigarette in a trash can near a tree.

The owner hopes to open the re-built Dead Dog by July 1.
