The Darlington County School District announced Monday that the school's activity buses will now run on cooking oil.
The district says the activity buses are diesel buses, so they will not require any conversions to use the biodiesel.
District Transportation Director Eddie McKenzie has been using biodiesel in his family's cars for three years and wanted to bring the money savings to the district.
McKenzie built the biodiesel plant at the Darlington bus shop himself
"We go around and we collect the oils at the schools . We bring them back here. We clean the oil. We add it in to our processer that will actually convert the cooking oil into bio-diesel oil," said McKenzie.
The school district will save taxpayers nearly $20,000 a year by using biodiesel fuel.
