Abel Candia-Lascano, wanted by Myrtle Beach Police
Myrtle Beach police say Abel Candia-Lascano, 35, of Myrtle Beach is wanted for Lewd Act on a Minor. Police say he sexually assaulted a girl in October 2011.
Police already arrested a teacher and a counselor at the accused victim's school for failing to report the abuse. On February 15, Myrtle Beach police charged Carole McMahon and Julie Farmer-Janis. In their roles at the school, the women are considered by South Carolina law as those who must be "mandatory reporters" of sexual abuse.
The warrants show that McMahon, a teacher, acted as a translator between Farmer-Janis, a counselor, and the girl's mother. The warrants say Farmer-Janis and the girl's mother came to an agreement that if the man moved out of the house before January 4, Farmer-Janis would not report the assault to police because of fears over the family's immigration status.
When they learned the man was still in the home on January 4, they called police.
The mother was charged with unlawful neglect of a child. We are not releasing her name to protect the identity of the child.
Police say Candia-Lascano is about 5'06", about 160 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
If you know where he may be, you're asked to call the Myrtle Beach Police Department at (843) 918-1382 or Detective Truex at (843) 918-1913.
