Darrin Hayes announced he is throwing his hat into the ring for Darlington County Coroner.
"I desire to bring the level of law enforcement experience to the office of Coroner that is expected and deserved by the citizens of Darlington County. I will always carry out the duties of the office in a fair and professional manner. This office investigates violent and sudden deaths to help determine the cause. In the cases of suspicious deaths, this office will play a major role in the initial investigation thus providing crucial evidence to help solve the case. Additionally, I will always show the compassion and respect to the families and victims that they deserve," said Hayes.
His law enforcement experience spans more than 26 years. He started at the Hartsville Police Department as an intern from Coker College in 1985.
Hayes went on to work for the Hartsville Police Department, the Darlington County Sheriff's Department and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division.
Since his retirement, he's held the position of Chief of Police for the Town of McBee.
Hayes says his experience qualifies him to be coroner.
Hayes explained, "Through the years I have led and assisted in numerous death investigations, from natural, accidental and intentional deaths. With the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, I was trained as an investigator for Hunting and Boating Death Investigations."
Hayes added that his motivation comes from his desire to continue using his law enforcement experience to serve the citizens of Darlington County and continue working with the community of law enforcement and emergency responders.
He says his commitment to the citizens of Darlington County is his highest priority.
