COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The Richland County Sheriff's office now has 15 new bulletproof vests for its police dogs thanks to donations after one of the dogs was shot to death.

The custom-made vests mean each of the agency's 16 dogs will be protected. Sheriff Leon Lott says the office has 14 Belgian Malinois, one Bloodhound and one Dutch Shepherd.

Lott says donations for the vests came pouring in after a police dog named Fargo was shot three times as he and his handler hunted for a robbery suspect in December.
