Florence School District One officials say a first grade student at Dewey L. Carter Elementary School brought a knife to class Thursday.

Officials say the child's teacher found the knife inside his bookbag.

They say the first grader made inappropriate statements, but district officials aren't releasing the nature of the statements.

Officials say the child was sent home Thursday pending the outcome of an administrative hearing.

District administrators tell NewsChannel 15 the boy showed back up at school Friday morning and was sent home again.

Officials say his parent hadn't realized the extent of what was going on and the child wasn't supposed to be back in school. They say the boy will remain home until his administrative hearing which will determine if he should be expelled or allowed back in school. The hearing will be held next week.
