Darlington has taken measures to ban new video sweepstakes machines and tax the ones already in town.
Last night, council gave the first reading to impose a 180 Moratorium on any businesses. The city administrator says council also gave the first reading to place a $500 tax on each existing machine, which would generate about $51,000 for the city.
City leaders say there are 102 video sweepstakes machines in the city.
Council is expected to approve both ordinances at next months meeting.
The City of Hartsville has also approved a 180 day moratorium on the machines.
