A father is behind bars after his two-month-old's drug test came back positive for cocaine and marijuana.
Myrtle Beach police charged Jonathon Hoard, 26, with unlawful conduct toward a child on Monday. The charge comes from a January 13 child welfare case, a Myrtle Beach police report says.
Hoard and the child's mother were being investigated by the Department of Social Services after the parents had been accused of using drugs. A DSS worker told police a case was generated in December.
On January 6, both the child and parents were tested for drugs. When the results came back on January 13, the child was positive for cocaine and marijuana. The parents only tested positive for marijuana.
"It's unclear how the child consumed any cocaine while in the custody of both parents that denied using or possessing any cocaine in the presence of the child," the police report says.
At that January 13 incident, Hoard admitted to being previously arrested for cocaine possesion in Horry County.
On December 11, Hoard was arrested and booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a possession charge. He was released the next day.
Since January 13, the child has been in the custody of a grandparent, and the parents signed a safety plan, according the police report.
As of now, it remains unclear why Hoard was arrested now when the results came back in January. It's also not known if the mother will face charges. We're working to find that out.
Hoard remains in the Myrtle Beach jail without bond at this time.
