Horry County police arrested a couple who they say left their four children in a car while the couple broke into a Surfside Beach area home and assaulted the two people living there.
They charged Shaunn Coles, 33, of Hemingway, and Lacey Goldsmith, 26, of Murrells Inlet with assault and battery, burglary and unlawful neglect of a child.
The children are ages 10, 8, 5, and 2.
Police say Coles and Goldsmith knew the victims, and the argument started over work on a car. They also say Coles was recently arrested for drugs and asked the male victim to take the charge for him because it was his third offense.
They say about 4 p.m. Saturday, Coles broke into a back door and started beating up the male victim. When the woman victim brought in a knife to protect her husband, police say Coles called for Goldsmith. Eventually, they say the woman victim dropped the knife and all four started fighting.
They were still fighting when police arrived.
