An intruder shot Derrick Amerson, 70, in his home in January. He died Friday at a Columbia hospital.
An autopsy showed he died as a result of the shooting. An autopsy was performed because Amerson had health problems.
His wife was beaten during the home invasion.
Police have not made an arrest.
