COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Columbia police are asking the public to help in a search for a missing executive.

Police Chief Randy Scott said Sunday that officers are looking for 61-year-old Tom Sponseller.

Sponseller is president and chief executive officer of the South Carolina Hospitality Association.

Scott says a relative reported Sponseller missing on Saturday after repeated attempts to reach him were unsuccessful. Police say Sponseller was last seen at work in downtown Columbia at around noon that day.

According to the SC Hospitality Association, Sponseller grew up in Greenville, is a graduate of The Citadel and is married with three adult children.

He spent 18 years with Canteen Corporation and joined the South Carolina Restaurant Association in 1990, helping facilitate a merger with the South Carolina Hotel & Motel Association in 1992.
