Wednesday, jurors in the civil trial against Florence County sheriff's deputy Dane Keefe found he did not use excessive force when he arrested Rodney Cooper in 2007.
It took the jurors about 40 minutes to reach their verdict.
In October 2009, Cooper filed a lawsuit against the Florence County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Kenney Boone and Deputy Dane Keefe. Cooper says he was assaulted by Keefe following a traffic stop in 2007. He said Keefe's use of excessive force greatly injured him.
He asked a jury for compensatory and punitive damages in an appropriate amount.
Court officials say the judge dismissed the lawsuit against the Sheriff's Office and Boone, but proceeded with the one against Keefe.
Captain Michael Nunn, with the Florence County Sheriff's Office, says Cooper admitted during the trial that he failed to stop for the blue light and intended to run after he eventually stopped his car.
Judge Alexander McAuley presided over the case.
