Forestry responding to Georgetown County brush fire

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) - South Carolina Forestry Commission worked a brush fire in Georgetown County off highway 701 and Choppee Road.

Scott Hawkins with the South Carolina Forestry Commission says they had several ground units on scene and one aircraft provide tactical support. About 45 acres of land burned.

Hawkins says as of 5:00 pm today, the Forestry Commission has 13 active fires and 28 fire suppression units dispatched statewide.

A Red Flag Fire Alert remains in effect for counties in the Pee Dee and coastal regions.
