NewsChannel 15 has learned Timmonsville town council hired Eleazer Carter of Manning as their new attorney.

We're told Mayor Darrick Jackson, William James, James Askins and Curtis Harrison voted in favor of the motion to hire Carter.

Officials say council members James Pigate, Clarence Joe and Marvin Burno voted against the motion.

Tuesday night, council fired Mark Buyck, III, but didn't say why.

Buyck had been the town's attorney for about six years.

Town officials say they owe Buyck more than $100,000 in legal fees and plan to come up with a payment plan to pay Buyck and his law firm.

Officials say Carter has agreed to represent the town for one year, but the terms of that agreement aren't being released just yet.
