The South Carolina Forestry Commissionand Horry County Fire Rescue battled a fire at the intersection of Valley Forge Road and Good Luck Road.
Forestry Commission Spokesperson Scott Hawkins says it appears a prescribed fire got loose. Hawkins said the person wanted to reduce the risk of wildfire and inadvertently started one. Hawkins says no homes were threatened.
Forestry issued a citation to that person for allowing fire to spread to land of another.
Forestry Commission firefighters were called to the 15 acre fire at 1:06 p.m. They contained the fire at 20 acres about three hours later.
Horry County firefighters helped fight the fire.
Firefighters also responded to a fire at Radius Road and Freemont Road in Horry County at 2:11 p.m. They had that fire contained just about an hour later.
