Darryl Page announced Monday he's resigning as head football coach for Wilson High School following 19 years as the Tigers head coach.  Page's tenure was highlighted by a class 3A state championship in 2007 and coaching current NFL linebackers Lawrence Timmons of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Justin Durant of the Detroit Lions.

In a news release, Florence School District One said Page would continue to teach, but they're starting an immediate search for a new head coach.

According to the school district, Page said he leaves the position with only positive thoughts. "It was God's will that I served in the position for as long as I did, and I have completed the task that He has assigned for me to do here."

"Coach Page has been the head coach at Wilson High School since 1993 and has spent 19 years total coaching within the Wilson High School athletic program," Principal Dr. Gerard Edward stated in the news release. "We would like to not only thank Coach Page for his dedication to Wilson football, but also for providing a positive influence on our youth inside and outside the classroom."

"Coach Page has brought many positives to the athletics here at Wilson," said Wilson High School Athletic Director Kevin Hawkins. "He's done a tremendous job, and we commend him on his leadership and the success of the football program."

According to the district, Page led the Tigers to the State AAA championship in 2007. Under his tenure as head football coach, the team made 13 playoff appearances: (1996, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2011). The team also became Region 5 AAA Champions in 1996; Region 6AAA Champions in 2003 and 2005; as well as State AAAA Semi Finalists in 1999 and State AAA Semi-Finalists in 2006. Under Page, the Tiger have garnered ten Florence City Championships. In 2004, Page served as North/South All-Star Game Assistant Coach for the South Team and in 2007, he served as Shrine Bowl Offensive Coordinator.
