Horry County Councilman Harold Worley said a new committee will continue the annual Little River Blue Crab Festival.

In December, the festival's previous committee announced the event was canceled because of problems with parking, transportation and security that have come up in recent years.

Since then, Worley has made it his mission to keep the festival going without the help of the previous committee.

"The festival is moving forward," said Worley. "We're hoping to put into place a new committee sometime this week. It's like starting a new business."

Worley and those he wants to see on the new committee are waiting for 501C3 documents to arrive so the committee can be formally introduced.

"Some legal work has to be done, but in the meantime, we have some other things we have to do," said Worley.

Several vendors are lined up to be included in the event, said Worley.

The festival is schedule for the weekend of May 19. It will be the event's 31st year.
