Starting May 3rd, Spirit Airlines will offer 3 non-stop flights a week between Myrtle Beach International Airport and Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport, the company announced Wednesday.
The service is seasonal, but no end date has been announced.
According to a news release from Spirit, the company is offering an introductory fare of $28.79, which is a $9.00 base fare plus taxes and fees. They're only offering the rate through Thursday. There are restrictions on that introductory rate, so you need to check the Spirit website.
"The introduction of our ultra low fares between Myrtle Beach and Dallas/Fort Worth offers travelers the ideal and affordable opportunity to take advantage of the renowned golf courses and other leisure activities both destinations have to offer," said Spirit's Senior Director of Network Planning Mark Kopczak in the news release. "Our cheap base fares give consumers the opportunity to save money on travel, and our range of optional services for a fee allows customers the freedom to choose only the extras they value."
"We are pleased to see Spirit Airlines growing its presence at DFW Airport by adding service three days a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sunday) to Myrtle Beach starting May 3, 2012," said Jeff Fegan, CEO of DFW International Airport. "Spirit's combination of low fares and fun-loving attitude have proven very popular with passengers, and are among the reasons DFW Airport has gained over 800,000 new passengers over the last year from low-cost carriers like Spirit. We're confident Spirit will continue to find new opportunities for service from the Dallas/Fort Worth market."
"We're excited to see that our partnership with Spirit Airlines continues to expand with increased service to new and exciting destinations. We know that Dallas presents a great opportunity for leisure travelers, as well as opens doors for our residents and business travelers alike. We look forward to continuing to grow this market with our community partners," said Michael La Pier, Director of Airports, Myrtle Beach International Airport.
"Dallas is one of the nation's premier golf markets, so it's a natural fit for Myrtle Beach," said Bill Golden, president of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. "The addition of non-stop, low-cost flight service will open our fairways to one of the game's hotbeds, and we can't wait to expose Dallas area residents to the quality and value of a Myrtle Beach golf trip."
"The ability for potential visitors to find lower priced airfare into the Myrtle Beach area is crucial when it comes to marketing the area as an affordable vacation spot. We're pleased to see Spirit Air add Dallas as a non-stop destination into Myrtle Beach as one of Spirit Air's strengths is their ability to offer lower priced airfare to customers," said Brad Dean, President and CEO, Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.
