Horry County sheriff's deputies arrested Kashief Spain, 34, of Conway.

Major Joey Johnson says Spain contacted home detention officers and said he wanted to turn himself in. He showed up at the detention center where he was booked at 7:27 p.m. Tuesday.

He's charged with Malicious Injury to Personal Property, Failure to Appear, and Escape.

Police say they were chasing Spain down Highway 31 last November, when he threw a gun out of his car window. The gun was later determined to be the one stolen from former North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Director William Bailey. He was taken into custody a short time later.

Police say three weeks after his arrest, Spain cut the ankle strap on his electronic monitoring device and escaped.

Police still haven't said if Spain is the one who stole Bailey's gun.
