The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, Coastal Carolina University and Horry-Georgetown Technical College will host the 2012 Grand Strand Legislative Reception for SC General Assembly members Tuesday. More than 200 are expected to attend.
"It's a good time to remember how important it is to have the face time with your legislators and your lawmakers," says Nora Battle, spokesperson for the Chamber.
The goal of the legislative reception is to increase awareness and understanding of the greater Myrtle Beach area's numerous contributions to the state, its economy and to underscore the importance of supporting the area's critical needs during the 2012 legislative session.
"It is imperative that we make sure the significant financial contributions and our area's specific needs are loud and clear. We need to be unified and vocal in our message to South Carolina state lawmakers regarding support and funding for issues such as tourism promotion and Interstate 73," said Mark Lazarus, MBACC Legislative Policy Council chairman.
Tourism, infrastructure, and healthcare top some of the MBACC's priorities.
Representatives from the organizations hosting and sponsoring the event, as well as public officials, business leaders and representatives from other area chambers and community organizations are expected to make the annual trip to Columbia for the reception.
