LITTLE RIVER -- Horry Electric Cooperative is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for vandalizing the Brooksville substation, which resulted in a power outage.

About 4,500 customers in the Longs and Little River areas were without power from 1:36 a.m. until 7:08 a.m.

Horry Electric isn't releasing details of the break-in.

"We don't want to risk disclosing any information that could impact the case," said James P. "Pat" Howle, executive vice president and CEO of Horry Electric Cooperative, in a press release. "Trespassing on Horry Electric property and causing damage to our system that causes a hardship for our members is not acceptable and we're pursuing this to the extent possible."

If you know anything about the break-in, call (843) 369-2211 or (843) 369-6265.
