AIKEN, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina authorities say a suspect is in custody following the shooting of an Aiken police officer.
The State Law Enforcement Division says 26-year-old Joshua Tremaine Jones was arrested Saturday, hours after the shooting was reported near a local park.
The Aiken Public Safety Office says officers were responding to a report of suspicious activity involving two cars, and that an officer was shot after stopping one of the vehicles.
The officer's identity has not yet been released. Police say the officer was taken to an area hospital after the shooting, but no update on a condition was immediately available.
This is the second time an Aiken police officer has been shot in just over a month. Officer Scotty Richardson was shot and killed on Dec. 20.
