CHESTERFIELD COUNTY -- The Chesterfield County Humane Society is expected to conduct its first full inspection of the Chesterfield County Animal Shelter in the next month.
The inspections come after an extensive investigation by the South Carolina Attorney General's Office on the shooting death last February of 22 animals at the shelter. The dogs were shot to death instead of being euthanized according to policy.
The four employees involved in the killings were fired.
The South Carolina Attorney General, Alan Wilson, ordered the humane society do quarterly inspections of the shelter until 2014.
NewsChannel 14 also learned today the new shelter director, Jerry Gaskins, resigned last week. He was hired in October.
The Chesterfield County Administrator, Denise Douglas, wouldn't comment on the resignation saying its a personnel matter.
