PAWLEYS ISLAND -- A 60-year-old Pawleys Island man was airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina after falling 30 feet while cutting down a tree.

Bob Bebee, a spokesman for Midway Fire Rescue, says the man was up a ladder cutting down a tree when a branch swung around and knocked him to the ground.

It happened at the man's home around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday on Martin Luther King Road.

The medical helicopter landed at Pawleys Island Community Church on Ocean Highway to transport the man, who Bebee says suffered possible hip and femur fractures.

His condition has not been released.
