Several Tea Party groups from around the state, including the Myrtle Beach Tea Party, announced Thursday they were giving their support to Gingrich.
Myrtle Beach Tea Party Chairman Joe Dugan expected Gingrich to win the primary after the former Speaker of the House spoke at the State Tea Party Convention this past Monday.
"He gave the crowd enthusiasm," said Dugan.
Dugan believes Gingrich will use his South Carolina win to take the Republican Party's presidential nomination.
"I think this will be followed up by a rout in Florida, and it's on to the other states. I think we could not have settled for a moderate like Mitt Romney."
This is this first time in the modern primary system that three different Republican candidates have won the first three primary elections.
Santorum was declared the winner of the Iowa Caucus and Romney won the New Hampshire primary.
