Saturday morning, firefighters at the Timmonsville Fire Department found a strange looking device that resembled a bomb in the storage area of their building on South Keith Street.

They called 911, and deputies with the Florence County Sheriff's Office responded.

Captain Michael Nunn says the bomb team with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) arrived at the scene to assess the situation.

Deputies asked all residents to evacuate their homes until they could determine what the device was and that the area was safe.

SLED agents detonated the device, but Nunn says it was not a bomb.

After the all clear was given, residents were allowed back in their homes.
