The sandcastle depicting the Republican candidates for president will be torn down on Monday - by a bunch of democrats.
It's OK - they have permission.
The Democratic Women of Horry County struck a deal with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce to secure the rights to demolish "Mount Myrtle."
In exchange, the group is donating to a community organization called "Mothers Against Violence."
We asked Sally Howard, Democratic Women's Council of Horry County, how they planned to tear it down. "A front end loader, shovels, and hard hats," she said.
The sandcastle was built by a company called "Team Sandtastic," and was constructed outside the Myrtle Beach Convention Center where the FoxNews/SCGOP debate was held on January 16.
The democratic women will have quite a job on their hands... 700,000 pounds of sand was used in the sculpture.
"We were glad to see the Republicans come here and create a buzz for Myrtle Beach, but it will be nice to get back to normal." said Howard, "After nearly two weeks of a constant bombardment of television commercials, radio spots, robo-calls and candidates popping up everywhere, we wish these campaigns safe travels on their way to Florida," Howard noted.
Saturday's primary election ends a wild primary season in South Carolina in which two nationally-televised debates were held and two candidates dropped out of the race before the primary election. "The candidates did a lot of talking, and now we'll clean up in the aftermath," said Howard. "In the words of Margaret Thatcher-If you want something said, ask a man…if you want something DONE, ask a woman."
The sculpture will be demolished at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 23rd.
