Marion police say David Archie Shelley, Junior held a woman hostage in his home at Thomas Mobile Home Park off of Highway 76 in Marion Friday afternoon.
Police are not releasing Shelley's relationship to the woman.
Police say the woman's friend called 911 saying Shelley was threatening to harm the woman and forced her to stay inside the home.
An officer arrived and asked Shelley several times to open the door and release the woman.
According to police, Shelley threatened to shoot and kill the officer.
The officer called for backup.
When officers arrived, they used a loud speaker and called Shelley on a phone asking him to come out and let the woman go.
After two hours of attempts to get Shelley out on his own, police called the Marion County Emergency Response Team (ERT). The team is made up of officers from Marion Police, Mullins Police, Nichols Police and the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
The ERT used flash bangs, which is like a smoke grenade, to get Shelley out of the home.
Officers say he was arrested and charged with threatening a law enforcement officer. Shelley could also face a kidnapping charge.
Police say the woman was not harmed in this incident.
Shelley is being held at the Marion County Detention Center.
