NORTH MYRTLE BEACH -- Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul landed at Grand Strand Airport in North Myrtle Beach Friday afternoon.

A crowd of about 75 people gathered in the hanger at Ramp 66.

Paul spoke to the crowd for about five minutes, saying he was expecting a good showing at Saturday's primary.

After thanking his supporters and greeting the crowd, he boarded his plane and headed for the Florence Regional Airport.

About 75 supporters greeted him there.

Paul says Saturday's South Carolina primary could be a "significant event" that will help propel his insurgent campaign forward.

He also plans to visit Aiken, Greenville and Columbia Friday.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
