Horry County Fire Rescue was called to the house fire Wednesday night on Pauley Swamp Road in Conway.
Horry County Battalion Chief Matthew Montgomery says the fire is under investigation, but it is believed to have started in a laundry room.
Two children, ages 8 and 14, were home when the fire ignited.
One was treated for smoke inhalation, but is expected to be okay. The family pet, a dog, was lost in the fire.
The house is considered a total loss. The American Red Cross has been called to help the family of five.
