West Florence Fire Department officials say their former fire chief, Phillip Kennedy, died earlier this week.
Chief Kennedy became a member of West Florence Fire Department close to when the department was started in 1973.
He became chief of the department in 1975 and held that post until he retired in 2005.
The department says Chief Kennedy will be greatly missed by all.
