(AP) -- WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say a man has been charged with killing a woman and burying her in the yard of a Wilmington home.
Deputies say 55-year-old Andrew Bernard Adams was arrested Friday after a standoff with police and charged with 1st degree murder.
Authorities say Adams killed 24-year-old Latricia Ana Scott, whose body was found earlier Friday in a makeshift grave.
Scott's family had reported her missing several days earlier. The medical examiner says Scott died from a head injury.
Prison officials Adams has a criminal record that includes rape, assault and trying to escape from jail.
Adams was being held without bond in the New Hanover County jail. It wasn't clear if he had an attorney.
