The Darlington County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly overnight house fire that killed Leroy Jacobs, 61.

It happened on Value Drive in the Centerville Community around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. When firefighters arrived, about 60 percent of the home was engulfed in flames.

Once the fire was out, firefighters discovered the man's body inside.

Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee says an autopsy will take place today.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been called in to help investigate.

Darlington County Sheriff Wayne Byrd says it's customary to call SLED in to investigate fires involving deaths. He does not believe a crime was committed.

He says it will take deputies sometime to go through the debris and determine the cause and origin of the fire.
