Marion police say they arrested a man while he tried to rob a bank about 4:30 p.m. Friday.
They say Thomas Edward Blackmon, 44, of Cincinnati went into the Pee Dee Federal Savings and Loan and gave the teller a note demanding money.
The teller pressed the bank's alarm and police say they showed up within a minute.
Police arrested Blackmon in the bank and charged him with entering a bank with intent to steal.
"I'm just glad it wasn't as bad as it could have been," City Administrator Alan Ammons said in a press release. "You just never know what you're walking into in situations like these."
"I'm pleased with our rapid response and apprehension," Police Chief Jim Gray said, adding that the officers did an excellent job of containing and resolving the situation.
