Nearly 1.3 million South Carolinians will be traveling during the holidays, and AAA Carolinas says 92 percent of them are driving.
Traffic was steady Friday on Interstate 95 through the Pee Dee.
Highway Patrol troopers will be out in full force this holiday season.
Troopers say despite their efforts to educate the public, they're still seeing people driving the wrong way on the interstates and other careless actions that cause accidents.
We talked with a couple of drivers who say they're doing their best to be careful on the roads, and they say so far so good.
"It's going great. No traffic - going the speed limit. It's going well," said Aaron Gold, of Washington, DC.
"Good - except for every once and a while somebody slows down to see something or, you know, just a lot of volume so you hit the brakes quite a bit. But we're doing alright," said Todd Brown, Virginia.
Troopers say this time of the year is a historically dangerous combination of carelessness and bad judgement on the part of drivers.
They say last year from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day, 143 people were killed on South Carolina roadways.
