The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has obtained warrants in the officer-involved shooting that happened Tuesday in Aiken.

Stephon Morrell Carter, 19, of Aiken, will be charged with murder and attempted murder once he's released from an Augusta, GA hospital.

Carter is accused of shooting and killing Master Public Safety Officer Scott Richardson, 33, and wounding Public Safety Officer Travis Griffin, 28.

The shootings happened at an apartment complex.

Carter was wounded by one of the officers.

Officers say Griffins bullet proof vest saved his life, as he was shot in the chest.

Richardson had been with the department since 1999. He left behind a wife and three small children.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
