25-year-old US Army Sergeant Tony Jones died in Iraq in 2005, after his truck hit a roadside bomb.
Six years later, Sandra Jones and her husband, Glenn, say losing their only son still hurts.
"As a father or a mother, you gonna continue to grieve that child. Some days may pass and you may just think of him briefly and other days you just might be about the house as not long ago, I was dusting his picture on the wall and it just brings it all back," said Sandra.
What brings this couple some comfort is knowing the war in Iraq is over.
"There's so many people that come to us and tell us I have a son, I have a daughter, whatever their relationship is that's currently serving in Iraq," Glen said, "I get their name and I put them on my personal prayer list and I pray for every one of their names three times every day and what this means to me is that I can throw that prayer list away. They're coming home. I don't have to pray that anymore."
The Jones say they can't wait for the day when all the troops return home to be with their families. They say it will be a great day that should be marked with celebrations across this country.
"I would love to be able to just to watch the families as these soldiers come home proud of their service and so grateful that their soldiers came home OK," said Glenn.
On that day, Sandra and Glenn will be thinking of their son Tony and the great sacrifice he made for our freedom.
Sandra and Glenn now dedicate much of their time as volunteer counselors for other families who have lost loved ones in the war.
